For the Black Magic Cake:
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1¾ cups all-purpose flour
- ¾ cup unsweetened baking cocoa
- 1½ teaspoons baking powder
- 1½ teaspoons baking soda

- 2 large eggs, room temperature
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup strong coffee
- ½ cup vegetable oil
- 1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
For the Chocolate Cream Cheese Frosting:
- 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 8 ounces powdered sugar
- ¼ cup unsweetened baking cocoa
- Pinch of salt
For the Chocolate Glaze:
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 3 tablespoons unsweetened baking cocoa
- 1 tablespoon warm water
- 1 tablespoon coffee-flavored liqueur
- 1 cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- Prepare Your Workspace: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease two 9-inch round cake pans with non-stick cooking spray and line bottoms with parchment paper.
- Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together sugar, flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined. Create a well in the center.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk eggs, buttermilk, coffee, vegetable oil, and vanilla extract until smooth. Pour this mixture into the well of dry ingredients.
- Create the Batter: Beat with an electric mixer on medium speed for 1-2 minutes until the batter is smooth and free of lumps. The consistency should be relatively thin.
- Bake to Perfection: Divide the batter evenly between prepared pans. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
- Cool and Prepare: Allow cakes to cool in pans for 10-15 minutes, then remove and transfer to wire racks to cool completely.
- Make Cream Cheese Frosting: Beat cream cheese, butter, and vanilla until fluffy. Gradually incorporate powdered sugar, cocoa, and salt until smooth and creamy.
- Create Chocolate Glaze: Melt butter in a saucepan, then stir in cocoa, water, and liqueur. Remove from heat and beat in powdered sugar until smooth.
